Transparency and engagement are major challenges for any large institution. At Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, staff were struggling with feeling like administration was not sharing enough information with them and not taking their thoughts and opinions into account when making important decisions. They needed a way not only to change this perception, but also to make tangible change within the organization. To do so,  Mount Sinai St. Luke’s established monthly focus groups,in which staff from all departments and positions get together with the president of the hospital to discuss issues important to the organization.

With a focus on engagement, collaboration, and responsiveness, these groups have given staff the opportunity to engage with core strategies and decisions that are made at the hospital. The groups have empowered employees and encouraged them to share their ideas, challenges, and suggestions directly with administration.

From this presentation, attendees will gain an understanding of how to successfully:

  • Implement a sustainable strategy for cross-level communication by providing key face-to-face “touch bases”
  • Align this strategy with your organization’s values, goals, and priorities
  • Leverage findings from employee feedback and put into action tactics and changes that have come directly from front-line staff
